Circle of Pieter Jacobsz. van Laer (Haarlem, 1599 - 1642)
Landscape with shepherds and herds in the Roman countryside
oil on canvas
with antique frame cm. 125x151
This painting belongs to the genre of painting said "School of Bamboccianti", and has precisely the typical characteristics of the representations of the founder Pieter van Laer, a point of reference for this particular stream of painters working in Rome in the seventeenth century.
The landscape around Rome became the absolute protagonist of the paintings: the painters prefer the scenes of the agrarian life, located in the vast picturesque stretches of the Roman countryside.
The work represents small and vibrant scenes of everyday and popular life, with a descriptive and realistic taste and animated effects of light and color. Note the nursing mother breastfeeding her son, in a break from work in the fields, which we see reproduced in many masterpieces.
G. Briganti, L. Trezzani, L. Laureati, I Bamboccianti, Roma 1983
The painting is in good condition and is accompanied by a beautiful gilded wood frame of the eighteenth century.
The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
