The Artist : Raya SORKINE 1936
Raya SORKINE was born in Paris, 20th arrondissement, on 22 June 1936.
In his real name, Alain-François Bouvier de Cachard lives in Provence. He is the son of a Jewish Russian emigre and a French Catholic aristocrat. For love of his mother and the Semitic and Slavic culture which she will transmit to him during his childhood and to distinguish himself from a paternal uncle who is also a painter, he will adopt both in his life and in painting the name and surname of his mother.
At the age of twelve, he left school and, barely fourteen years of age, with a small sketchbook, he set out on the roads like a nomad. He sleeps under the stars. Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East ... he goes everywhere, drawing or painting. Later he buys a caravan to continue his travels. Throughout his wandering life, which lasted nearly twenty years, he dispersed his many pictures in the world, he married four women of whom he had seven daughters.
Raya Sorkine has been registered with Bénézit since 1971, and is present in all international guides and is regularly confirmed by auctions of Drouot, Versailles, Geneva, London ...
